Apple Ping Review
I'm currently taking a look at Ping. More to follow soon ...
In Apple's 1st September Keynote presentation ping was shown to link to Facebook and Twitter but within a day of launch, this functionality was switched off. Apple claimed this down to the terms and conditions imposed by Facebook.
First impressions are not good. Not only is there very few people or friends on the service but there are also a very limited number of bands / artists that you can follow. The basic functionality is like a crippled Facebook. There is not way to make a simply status update, only actions through iTunes and Ping seem to make it into you feed.
It appears I'm not the only one that finds Ping a bit lame:
Mobile iTunes App & Ping
You can not activate a Ping account from your iPhone. It must be done through iTunes 10.

On the iPhone (and iPod) iTunes now has a Ping option under the iTunes app, accessed via the more bottom button.

This gives you access to a subset of the functionality and a view of your activity stream. I can see this being improved and updated as time goes by.
