Axis M1011 Review

This review is still in progress.

You can read more about IP network cameras in our IP network camera section. We also have a project on cloud storage, which uses IP network cameras.

Axis M1011 components
The Axis M1011 is a basic, wired IP network camera for use indoors. It provides good quality video at 30 frames per second in VGA resolution (640 × 480 pixels). It comes with a plastic mount/clamp and a plug-in power supply unit (5V dc @ 1.5A).

A wireless version of this camera is also available.

Configuration & Setup

There is a PC program to enable camera set up but, we used the web interface to set our M1011 up. It is easy to change the IP address and port of the camera on your local network. We have configured fixed IP addresses for all our IP cameras but, they can use DHCP if required.

Viewing & Remote Access

T.B.C.

For the application we have used this camera for, the resolution is good enough. For an outdoor camera mounted at roof line level, we would want a camera that supported a higher resolution though. The lens quality and overall image quality is pretty good though.

Movement Detection & Events

The movement detection requires some careful set up for each specific environment but, once set up it can capture movement well and then trigger events. The interface enables a configurable area for movement detection so things like plants and trees can be excluded (when they move in the wind). The sensitivity and history can be configured, so that the size of objects and the speed of movement can be factor in event triggering. Our testing showed it was quite easy to capture birds flying across our garden if required.

The camera works well in daylight but does not have a night mode and the picture gets quite noisy in low light conditions. The movement detection cannot be used reliably at night due to this noise. The motion detection and events can be configured to work over specific time periods only though.

Programmable Control

All Axis cameras support an interface to enable remote configuration and control.
